I know that many of you are yearning for a return to 'normality'. Please do not overlook those of us (with Aspergers, ADHD, or many other forms of disability) for whom 'normality' brings with it many problems, but of a different sort than those encountered in the pandemic. For those on the autistic spectrum, the uncertainties of the pandemic are difficult to bear ; but, for many of us, sensory overload and difficult human interactions were absent. Those difficulties will rear their head again while the rest of you are celebrating neurotypical 'normality.' So, if you have a thought to spare, spare for it for us, and remind yourself that not everybody will be celebrating.
As a shy person, I'm also nervous about going out into the world again. I appreciate that social interactions are not for everyone.
Funnily enough although I'm not officially on the autistic spectrum, I am slightly dreading having to return to the complicated world of noise, more people, more interactions and many more decisions to be made. My simple if somewhat hermit-like life has become rather comfortable.....making me lazy. What I am looking forward to is sitting in a cafe and reading.
